[miningmx.com] – KUYASA Mining, a two million tonne/year coal producer, plans to build a $1.7bn, 600MW power plant, said Bloomberg News which cited the coal firm’s founder, Ayanda Bam.
Banks along with development-finance institutions would fund the bid by KiPower, the company’s power unit, Bam, told Bloomberg News. “They will fund our bid with us being the lead developer,’ he said.
The project was in part of the South African government’s 2,500MW power procurement strategy which allows for some coal-fired supply. Kuyasa plans to locate the plant at its mine near Delmas, said Bloomberg News.
