DRC says Kamoa should be suspended

[miningmx.com] – IVANHOE Mines’ Kamoa copper project ought to be suspended until the concerns of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) were addressed, said Reuters citing a statement from the central African country’s government.

Ivanhoe has said it is selling a 49.5% stake in the project to Chinese firm, Zijin Mining – a proposal that has irked the DRC which said it expected to receive an additional 15% in the venture taking its total holding to 20%.

“That last transaction should be suspended until the completion of the talks that the government has undertaken,” mines minister Martin Kabwelulu and portfolio minister Louise Munga Mesozi said in a statement.
