[miningmx.com] – IVANHOE Mines said that it intended to sell a further 15% in the Kamoa copper project to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and had made proposals to the central African country’s government.
Ivanhoe Mines was responding to a statement by mines minister Martin Kabwelulu who earlier this week said the project ought to be suspended amid an agreement that 49.5% in the project was being sold to Zijin Mining, a Chinese company.
Robert Friedland, executive chairman of Ivanhoe Mines, said that both Ivanhoe and Zijin were prepared to be diluted post their sale agreement and that he was waiting on the DRC to respond to his 15% sale proposal.
