[miningmx.com] – SOUTH Africa mines minister, Mosebenzi Zwane, hailed the successful conclusion to an underground sit-in by 200 miners at the property of ASA Metals in the country’s Limpopo province.
“Workers should not have to resort to such drastic measures to get the attention of their employers. The doors of communication between employers and employees must thus always remain open,” said Zwane.
The National Union of Mineworkers downed tools last Thursday at the ASA Metal’s chrome mine and accused the company of suspending and dismissing the union’s officials on “spurious grounds”.
Zwane urged the parties to “… continue engaging to find a sustainable solution to the issues that have been raised”.
