Sibanye gets thumbs up for Amplats deal

[miningmx.com] – SIBANYE Gold shareholders voted overwhelmingly in favour of the purchase of the Rustenburg mines from Anglo American Platinum for at least R4.5bn, the first step towards the diversification of the gold miner, said BDLive.

Sibanye said 99.9% of the owners of 86.3% of its shares voted in favour of the transaction, which involves Sibanye’s paying R1.5bn in cash upfront for the Rustenburg mines and then another minimum of R3bn later, it said.

Sibanye, the largest producer of South African gold, has a second platinum transaction lined up, buying the whole of Aquarius Platinum for $294m, it said.
