[miningmx.com] — KUMBA Iron Ore said on Monday the ramp-up of
operations at its Sishen mine was beset with interruptions following the end of the
occupation of the mine by a small group of striking workers last week.
“Sishen’s normal shift roster was restored towards the end of last week,’ the
company said in a statement. “In the first instance, employees reported for a two-day
safety induction and certain mining activities resumed on Saturday 20 October 2012.’
However, employee attendance rates in the mining production area remained below
50%, which is less than what is required for the full operation of the mine.
“The South African Police Service is maintaining a strong presence in the areas around
the mine and incidences of intimidation are being reported to them.’ Kumba would
publish its third quarter production statement on Thursday.
