Shabangu wants a South African to lead Anglo

[miningmx] — MINERAL Resources Minister Susan Shabangu has said that she “was
not surprised’ by the resignation of Anglo American’s CEO, Cynthia Carroll, adding
that she hoped a South African would be appointed as Carroll’s successor.

“Ms Carroll has served the South African mining industry with distinction and has
decided that it is time to move on for her,’ Shabangu said in a statement on Friday.

“Together with her departure comes a new opportunity for someone else, who we
hope will be a local person, that will continue to contribute to transformation of our
industry and who will have our interest as a country at heart.’

Carroll would remain with Anglo American until a successor has been appointed.
