[miningmx.com] – TWO men arrested on suspicion of possessing uranium weren’t holding active material, said Bloomberg News citing the South African Police Service (SAPS).
“It was stored in a plastic packet, pure mined uranium, it was not active,’ SAPS to the newswire agency. “It was immediately taken by the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation,’ it said.
The two foreign nationals, both in their twenties, appeared in court yesterday in the eastern port city of Durban and will remain in custody until December 3 pending a bail application.
They were arrested on November 14 as they tried to find a buyer for a package they claimed contained the radioactive metal, said Bloomberg News.
