Guinea, UAE strike $5bn alumina deal

[miningmx.com] – GUINEA and the Dubai and Abu Dhabi authorities of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have agreed to jointly develop a $5bn bauxite mine and alumina refinery in the west African country, the Financial Times reported.

“Today we are seeing further benefits from our long-term strategic partnership with the UAE,’ Mohamed Lamine Fofana, Guinea’s mining minister, was quoted by the Financial Times to have said.

The agreement is between the government of Guinea and Guinea Aluminium Corporation (GAC) which is, in turn, owned by Mubadala, Abu Dhabi’s development company and Dubai Aluminium.

The two emirates bought control of GAC from BHP Billiton.
