
[miningmx.com] – A 15% levy on unrefined platinum exports from Zimbabwe would punish the platinum group metal industry there and turn it uncompetitive, said the country’s Chamber of Mines.
Citing a chamber document put before Zimbabwe’s parliamentary committee, Bloomberg News said the levy would be “ill-timed, distortionary and reduces export competitiveness”.
“With the platinum price already depressed, compounded by other challenges, this will hamper down viability of the sub-platinum sector,’ Bloomberg News said citing comments in the chamber document. The levy is effective from January.
