Mozambique’s Renamo says militias regrouping

[miningmx.com] – FORMER militiamen of Mozambique’s opposition National Resistance Party (Renamo) are regrouping in the southern province of Inhambane in preparation for possible attacks by the army, said Bloomberg News.

Citing Fernando Mazanga, spokesman for Renamo, Bloomberg News said the militiamen had been dismissed from the national army, but had asked their party to take action folowing alleged attacks by government.

“The party gave a directive to regroup,’ Mazanga said. Renamo isn’t recruiting new militiamen, he said, and isn’t planning attacks on civilians, said Mazanga.
