
[miningmx.com] – THE Association of Mineworkers & Construction Union (AMCU) acknowledged the platinum strike launched by the union on January 23 had created pressure for all parties, including the union.
“There are pressures from all sides’ to reach an agreement, AMCU treasurer Jimmy Gama told Bloomberg News. “When you have these pressures, all the parties need to apply their minds constructively to deal with the issue,’ he said.
It is estimated between 70,000 and 80,000 AMCU members joined a strike over wages in which the union is demanding a basic R12,500 per month salary for entry-level workers and upwards.
