Union starts arbitration with Eskom

[miningmx.com] — TRADE union Solidarity says it will on Wednesday hold a first dispute meeting at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) in a bid to settle the drawn-out wage dispute with Eskom.

Solidarity declared a dispute with the power utility last week, after the company’s one-sided implementation of a two-year wage agreement for a 7% increase led to a breach of confidence between the company and its employees.

Solidarity deputy general secretary Gideon du Plessis said the union hoped Eskom would make a formal wage offer of an 8% increase and put forward a plan for increasing the housing allowance significantly over the next three years.
