[miningmx.com] — MOST gold miners require considerable funding just to get off the ground, but a man from Northern Ireland has embraced low cost techniques favouring nature, fertiliser and a household heater.
Unfortunately, his efforts have landed him in jail.
The Belfast Telegraph reported on Thursday that Paul Moran (30) has been jailed for three months for trying to turn his own faeces into gold by putting it on an electric heater.
The bizarre experiment, however, caused around £3,000 worth of damage to his home in a block of flats in July.
Moran admitted arson and endangering the lives of others.
According to the report, the judge told Moran: “Rather bizarrely you were attempting to make gold from human faeces and waste products. It was an interesting experiment to fulfil the alchemist’s dream, but wasn’t going to succeed.’
On Friday, Fairfax Securities commented it was “sad’ to hear about Moran’s incarceration.
“In times of low economic growth it is important that entrepreneurship, innovation and scientific endeavour are embraced to reduce costs for profitable metals production,’ said Fairfax.
“The world has been made by dreamers but unfortunately for Mr Moran (and luckily for many of our clients) this dream was one step too far.’
In another effort to turn poo into gold, residents of the Taiwanese town of New Taipei City were offered a chance to win gold bars for handing in bags of doggy deposits, according to a Reuters report in August.
The lucky draw formed part of city authorities’ efforts to encourage dog owners to clean up after their pets.
