[miningmx.com] — THE National Union of Mineworkers and resources group Xstrata will continue their engagement on Tuesday, in an attempt to find an amicable solution to the equalisation challenge on the Employee Share Ownership Programme (Esop).
The NUM last week suspended its strike action, while the company committed itself to equalisation of dividends after an intervention by the Ministry of Mineral Resources.
“Parties will be under pressure as the seven day deadline looms. The deadline set was for Wednesday, the NUM said in a statement.
The NUM is demanding that Xtstrata dispense equally the dividends from its Employee Share Ownership Programme.
“An ESOP is provided for in the mining charter as are other Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment projects,” it added.
