[miningmx.com] – A WORKER was shot dead at Lonmin’s Rowland shaft near Rustenburg with initial reports by Sapa and Reuters identifying the man as a shop steward for the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM).
However, it was not clear whether the incident was another manifestation of inter-union rivalry between the NUM and the Association of Mineworkers & Construction Union (AMCU). Lonmin spokeswoman Sue Vey said: “The details and reasons for the shooting are not yet clear but the South African Police Service is investigating.’
