[miningmx.com] — KUMBA Iron Ore reported a 23% decline in quarterly production on Thursday, hit by excessive rainfall at all operations.
Kumba said output of the steel-making metal totalled 8.8 million metric tonnes (Mt) in the quarter to end March compared with 11.5 Mt a year earlier.
Rainfalls “resulted in wet pit conditions that hampered mining activities and plant throughput,” Kumba said in statement.
But the company repeated its full-year outlook, saying production was expected to be stable as it has implemented plans to recover the shortfall suffered in the first quarter.
