Brad Wood charged over Aurora deaths

[miningmx.com] — FORMER Big Brother celebrity Brad Wood and four others are being charged with murder after four illegal miners were killed at the Aurora Grootvlei Mine in Springs, the National Prosecuting Authority said on Thursday.

“The Director of Public Prosecution in North Gauteng has decided to charge three security guards and two mine employees with four counts of murder and six counts of attempted murder”, spokesperson Mthunzi Mhaga told Sapa.

They were expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on Monday where they would be served with an indictment and notified of the forum where the matter would be heard.

Mhaga said that because Wood went on national radio saying that he was being charged with murder the NPA was compelled to confirm the charges.

Woods was head of the security company used at the mine, owned by President Jacob Zuma’s nephew Khulubuse Zuma and former president Nelson Mandela’s grandson Zondwa Mandela.

In October he was appointed security manger at Aurora’s Orkney and Springs operations.
