[miningmx.com] — Platinum Australia said on Friday that production at its Smokey Hills Mine in Limpopo has been disrupted by blockages to the access road by communities adjacent to the road.
“The blockages are occurring approximately 10km from the Smokey Hills mine on a municipal road and are causing significant disruption to all traffic,” read the statement.
The road is unsealed and it is understood that the main demand of the community is for the road to be sealed as a number of other roads in the area have recently been, the group said.
“The Limpopo government and local authorities, including the police, have taken action to open the road and engage with the community to address the situation.
“The company has also engaged with the authorities and other parties including community representatives in order to assist in achieving a satisfactory conclusion and rapid end to the disruptions to the Smokey Hills operation.
“It is anticipated that operations at Smokey Hills are expected to return to normal over the next day or two.”
