Glencore lifts half-year copper output 13%

[miningmx.com] – SWISS-headquartered mining group, Glencore, said copper production increased 13% to 741,000 tonnes in the half-year to end June 30 owing to the ramp-up of its Mutanda operation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and improved output at Collahuasi.

The Mutanda operation produced 98,600 tonnes during the period an increase of 37,400 tonnes (61%) and reflects the recent expansion to 200,000 tonnes a year, Glencore said in an announcement today.

Own sourced coal production was up 5% to 71.2 million tonnes, mainly due to productivity improvements and ongoing expansion projects in Australian thermal coal, and a 32 day strike at Cerrejon which impacted Q1 2013, the company said.
