[miningmx.com] – THE price of coal could rise as much as 40% to $100 per tonne by 2020 as high cost mines are shut and demand for the fuel increases, said Bloomberg News.
Citing a report by the International Energy Agency, the newswire said that coal prices could increase further to as much as $110/t by 2040 based on annual average economic growth of 3.4%.
Demand for thermal coal will grow 15% by 2040, with two-thirds of that increase taking place in the next 10 years, the IEA said in its report.
