[miningmx.com] – INDIAN business family, the Guptas, had captured political authority in South Africa through its undue influence over President Jacob Zuma, said Bloomberg News citing the views of analysts and rival politicians.
In a report that took in the opinions of Zwelinzima Vavi, the former head of Cosatu, and the Institute of Security Studies, Bloomberg News said that the Gupta brothers – Atul, Rajesh and Ajay, had also won extraordinary privileges in South Africa.
“They are the chieftains of patronage. They get extraordinary privileges from the president,’ Mmusi Maimane, the leader of the main opposition Democratic Alliance, told Bloomberg News.
Said Nic Borain, an adviser to BNP Paribas Securities South Africa: “It’s a deeply troubling relationship between the Gupta family and the president’s family.
There are a multitude of documented relationships and there is a very widespread acceptance and assumption that this goes beyond undue influence. This goes close to capture of political authority by a group of foreign businessmen.”
