China to invest $2.1bn in Zimbabwe coal

[miningmx.com] – CHINA Africa Sunlight Energy is to invest $2.1bn in new coal mines in Zimbabwe that will supply a 2,100MW plant, said Bloomberg News citing Charles Mugari, GM of the joint venture company.

“For our project to be fully operational, we are looking at five years,’ Mugari told Bloomberg News. “For the coal mining, we are looking at the end of next year,” he said adding a billion dollars would be sunk in building power generation.

China Africa Sunlight is a joint venture between Shandong Taishan Sunlight and Old Stone Investments of Zimbabwe.
