[miningmx.com] – TOXIC waste spilled by AngloGold Ashanti last week from its Mine Waste Solutions plant affected 1.6km of a tributary of South Africa’s Vaal River, said Bloomberg News citing the company.
“We appointed a response team, which included internal and third-party specialists, to closely monitor and mitigate the impact,’ said AngloGold Ashanti in an e-mail to the newswire service.
“Operations were immediately halted, containment walls constructed, and all bolts in the critical sections of the pipelines replaced and welded,’ it said. It was the second leak from Mine Waste Solutions unit in the past five months, Bloomberg News said.
