
[miningmx.com] – SOUTH African power utility, Eskom, said power supply in the country would be tight until the month-end despite asking industrial users to cut back consumption by 10%.
“We anticipate that the system will remain extremely tight until Friday November 29,’ Johannesburg-based Eskom told Bloomberg News. “We are constantly reviewing the situation and will lift the emergency notice once the situation improves,’ it said.
Eskom had earlier issued emergency protocols earlier this week following unexpected loss of generating power allowing it to cut power to aluminium smelters, ferrochrome furnaces and gold and platinum mines, among other industrial sectors.
