[miningmx.com] – ANGLO American Platinum (Amplats) is suing the Association of Mineworkers & Construction Union (AMCU) for R600m in damages caused by its members during a strike at the platinum firm’s premises, said Business Times.
This landmark legal action is the most significant action yet by a mining house against strikers, said the newspaper.
Business Times cited Amplats as saying: “The company seeks payment of damages caused by Amcu’s failures to adhere to the law, damage to property, increased costs to pay protection services staff overtime, and loss of production because non-striking workers were prevented from working.”
