
[miningmx.com] – SOUTH Africa was a stable democracy and had made progress in the last 20 years, said BDLive citing Roger Baxter COO and senior economist at the Chamber of Mines.
This was despite some wobbly years such as 2012 when police services shot dead 35 miners at Lonmin’s Marikana platinum mine.
Baxter said that mining remained critical to the country’s fortunes and there were challenges such as increasing electricity supply and improving rail infrastructure. These had to be addressed in order for the sector to create jobs.
