Platinum fund may have been looted

[miningmx.com] – MINING companies Lonmin, Samancor and International Ferro Metals gave detailed before the North West standing committee on public accounts (Scopa) yesterday of a platinum fund worth R400m that may have been looted, BDLive reported.

Two investigations by the public protector and the North West premier’s office are already under way to establish how the funds had been spent, and who had given permission, said BDLive.

The account is for the uplift of Marikana’s Bapo ba Mogale community, but it emerged that the bank account, which has not been audited since 1994, is managed by the North West finance department.
