Orion completes 18 month drilling programme at Prieska Zinc-Copper Project

ORION Minerals said today it had completed an 18-month drilling programme aimed at updating the resource of its Prieska Zinc-Copper Project which is located in South Africa’s Northern Cape province.

The company said in an announcement that it was now positioned to publish an updated resource number for the project in mid-December ahead of a bankable feasibility study to be completed in the second quarter of 2019.

“The completion of this major drilling program is a huge achievement and a really important milestone for Orion on our journey to become a substantial new base metal producer in South Africa,” said Errol Smart, MD and CEO of Orion Minerals.

“The program, which has at times involved up to 18 surface rigs working around the clock over the past 18 months, has been a huge endeavour,” said Smart.

“The program was mainly designed to in-fill the mineralisation within the February 2018 mineral resource footprint with the objective of achieving an upgrade in resource confidence to feed into our bankable feasibility study,” he said.

The Prieska Zinc-Copper Project currently has a maiden JORC-compliant total mineral resource of 29.4 million tonnes containing 1.13-million tonnes of zinc and 365,000 tonnes of copper.
